Nursing Homes: Charging and Obtaining Free Care

People in nursing homes could be entitled to free NHS care. Those who do not qualify for fully funded NHS care may still be entitled to receive some of their nursing care free of charge on the NHS.

People with long term care needs may have mostly general care needs which are provided by social services and are means tested, but they may still require specialist nursing input.  This specialist nursing input can be provided free of charge on the NHS.  If you are unhappy with the level of free NHS nursing care you are receiving you can request a higher level of nursing care from your PCT.  A successful challenge can result in you receiving more care free of charge on the NHS and having to pay less for care from social services.

Our expert lawyers can advise you on your human rights and assist you in resolving a dispute, maximising your entitlement to free care or challenging any decision to refuse care.
