Unlike most IFAs, banks, insurance companies and stockbrokers we deal exclusively with the financial management of personal injury awards. Our teams of experts are true specialists in this field and have many years of experience in investment management, financial planning and tax mitigation.

IM Asset Management provides both pre-settlement and post-settlement services to its clients.

Our pre-settlement advice incorporates expert financial reports and advice on the form and proportion an award for personal injury should take.

Our post-settlement financial planning team provides individual financial planning and continuing financial advice for each client.

IM Asset Management’s streamlined approach integrates financial and investment strategies which make the most of any award and ensure a financially secure future for each client. We currently manage funds worth over £200m on behalf of over 400 clients.

IM Asset Management is owned by the partners of Irwin Mitchell, however we operate independently from them and all of the work we do is dealt with in total confidence. Furthermore, our independence from any investment company means we can choose funds from any organisation, including the OEIC funds we manage ourselves.

Our services

Pre-settlement advice

Our team provides advice to solicitors and claimants about how claims should be settled; namely whether periodical payments are appropriate and what proportion, if any, of their claim should be settled in this way.

Although not yet required by law, consideration of periodical payments for high value personal injury cases is essential. In some cases however, the payment of a lump sum may be more appropriate.

We use a simple but highly effective process to determine the form and proportion an award for personal injury should take. After analysing the potential size of the claimant's award, their life expectancy, future needs, objectives and present financial circumstances, we use our own financial modelling tools to decide upon the most appropriate award structure. Following this, we provide a full range of pre-settlement services including the production of expert financial reports which can be used by the court if necessary.

Post-settlement advice

Our team of independent financial planners provide flexible and imaginative solutions combining a range of different financial elements to produce a complete, cohesive investment strategy for each of our clients.

We work closely with case managers and client’s families as well as receivers/deputies and trustees where appropriate, to gain a complete picture of our client’s individual needs and ensure that our advice is based on this.

Investment Management

At IM Asset Management, we have an in-house team of investment fund managers, led by Richard Potts, who manage our own range of portfolios and funds. The team has a wealth of experience in managing investments all over the world and across different asset classes.

The team is focused on placing clients’ investments in the best opportunities globally and to this end; they use a disciplined approach which utilises a number of established investment strategies.
