Vaccination Overdose At Scunthorpe General Hospital
18 Feb 2010
Irwin Mitchell has been approached by a client after the client’s newborn child was given an overdose of BCG vaccination.
The child was born at Scunthorpe General Hospital on 05/02/2010 and required the BCG immunisation (TB).
The junior doctor prescribing and administering the injection gave an overdose of ten times the required amount.
The child is now being treated for TB.
It is believed that three other babies may have been given an overdose by the same doctor.
David Body of Irwin Mitchell said: “We have recently been instructed by the parents of a newborn baby who was given an inappropriate overdose of the BCG vaccination in early February 2010 at Scunthorpe General Hospital. We understand that other babies may also have received overdoses at the same hospital at around this time and we urge the families of any babies who have been similarly affected to get in touch.”
