120mph freefall charity fundraiser
08 Jul 2010
On Saturday 3 July 2010 three brave souls, Caroline Robson, Elisha Hamilton and Stephen Winn from the Newcastle office of Irwin Mitchell were chewing on the already short fingernails in nervous anticipation.
They were then strapped to experts and taken in a plane to 10,00 feet above the beautiful County Durham scenery and then hurled from the plane face first in a sponsored tandem skydive. They reached speeds of up to 120mph in freefall for 40 seconds before the parachute was safely deployed. After a smooth decent and a safe landing all three were back on the ground in one piece. They all agreed the experience was fantastic and wanted to do the whole thing again as soon as possible!
The reason for this death defying feat was to raise much needed funds for the Irwin Mitchell office nominated charity, Heel and Toe. They are a local charity that offers free conductive education therapy to any child suffering from cerebral palsy, dyspraxia or any other motor disorder, some of these include mircocephaly, development delay, speech and language delay, West syndrome, Walker-Warburg and sensory integration disorder. Fundraising efforts have so far netted a total of over £950 with more to come, and this will be included in the end of year total that will be doubled by the national Irwin Mitchell Charity Foundation.
