Breast surgeon to appear before GMC over unnecessary medical procedures

A Consultant Breast Surgeon at the London Breast Clinic, is currently appearing before the GMC’s Fitness to Practice Panel in Manchester.

It is alleged that he arranged for an unnecessary bone scan and liver ultrasound on one patient, incurring financial cost to AXA PPP Healthcare. It is further alleged that he excised a breast lump and further tissue from another patient when the procedures were not clinically indicated, were unnecessary and contrary to the patient’s wishes to avoid surgery, again incurring financial costs to AXA PPP Healthcare. The outcome of the hearing is awaited.

Irwin Mitchell have been instructed to pursue a civil claim on behalf of a former patient of the doctor.
