£5,100 Raised in Tiny Babies BIG Appeal Skydive 01 May 2010

13 May 2010

A team of dare devil jumpers took to the skies and braved a 10,000 feet tandem skydive in aid of Irwin Mitchell LLP Birmingham’s 2010 nominated charity.

Jenna Harris, Patricia McAuley, Sandeep Sidhu, Lorna Flood, Thomas Riis-Bristow, Venessa Omotoye, Cheryl Palmer-Hughes, Jennifer Downing, Jon Griffin, Sarah Palser and Hayley Bourne embarked on their fundraising mission that involved the following activities:

The BIG bake Sale

The team and people from across the office all joined forces in baking a wonderful selection of cakes to sell towards the cause. The event was a great success and everyone enjoyed the cakes on offer with the team raising £225.00.

Wear it Sky Blue Day

The team was kindly allowed to use a firm dress down day to promote the jump by asking staff to wear it sky blue. People across the office got into the spirit and raised £156.00 and a further £116.00 was raised the following week for another dress down day.

Baby Dress up

Jenna Harris and Patricia McAuley bravely wore “onesies” and toddled about the office with Nicola Forster collecting cash for the cause, and raised £158. Thank you for doing this girls and apologies for the obligatory picture below.

Waitrose bag packing

Thomas Riis-Bristow, Lorna Flood (with husband and mother in law), Vanessa Omotoye, Cheryl Palmer-Hughes, Patricia McAuley, Nicola Forster, Adam Wright, Jenna Harris, Jon Griffin (with girlfriend) and Sara Palser (with son) all helped pack bags at Waitrose Harborne on Saturday 24 April, to help raise money towards the target. The team of packers helped raise awareness about the appeal and also Irwin Mitchell during a very busy Saturday of Shopping. The customers gave very generously and the team of packers managed to raise £886.82!

Book Sale

Finally the team held a bring an buy book sale and raised £120.00.

The team have managed to raise over £5100 and counting! The team all agreed that we have been met with great support and generous donations from across the office and from friends and family. On behalf of the team I would like to thank everyone who has donated to such a worthy cause towards building a state of the art specialist neonatal unit in the Midlands. It has been an unprecedented success in launching Irwin Mitchell LLP Birmingham’s 2010 nominated charity.

The BIG Jump

The team arrived at an airfield in Whitchurch, Shropshire for the big jump, the weather was beautiful and perfect for skydiving. After our safety briefing the first two jumpers were kitted up and ready to go. The rest of the team watched them soar to 10,000 feet and then take the dive. The bar was set; we all had to go through with the jump!

This continued until Cheryl Palmer-Hughes’ main parachute failed to open… Lorna Flood, who was “calmly” getting kitted up in the cabin at the time, heard cries of “PARACHUTE FAILURE” from the staff. This probably wasn’t the best thing to hear just before going out…Thankfully the reserve parachute opened.

It was an amazing experience and we all had a great day as did imperial mouse and Orson the bear!

The team cannot thank everyone enough for all their support over the last few months and we hope that our feat will help raise wider awareness of the tiny babies BIG appeal and help them towards their ultimate target.

Well done everyone who took part! I'm sure it was a lot of hard work but it was for a very good cause. Everyone involved brought great credit both to themselves and IM. In these days of economic hardship it is good to see that firms like IM still have the compassion to promote charitable works!.
