An extreme walk to work

22 Jul 2009

On Saturday 20th June 2009, Georgina Sheldon, a solicitor at IM completed a gruelling 45 mile walk from Manchester to Sheffield across the Peak District.

To add to this achievement, she managed to finish the walk in just 17 hours, seemingly ignoring the hills and stormy weather.

Joined by her friend Rachel Cousins, a trainee solicitor at Weightmans, Georgina walked from Rachel’s office in Manchester to IM’s office in Sheffield. The friends walked in support of their respective office charities, namely Cavendish Cancer Care and Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Georgina, a solicitor in IM’s Medical Law and Patients’ Rights team, said "towards the end it got really tough - especially the steep climb up Bamford Clough, which, after 32 miles and soaked to the skin, was hard going, There was some beautiful scenery along the way, which we were able to appreciate, especially when the sun was shining and the terrain was flat! Walking past my house with another four miles to go was a low point - I must admit thoughts of nipping in for a cup of tea and a lie down did cross my mind!"

So far, the pair have raised over £1200 for their charities. There is still time to show your support - Georgina's Just Giving page can be found at www.JustGiving.com/GeorginaSheldon1.

Cavendish Cancer Care is the 2009 adopted charity for IM’s Sheffield office. The charity provides supportive care to cancer patients, their carers and children. It helps people find ways of coping with the physical and psychosocial effects of the illness, helping them to live through the illness with maximum independence and optimum quality of life.
