Tachycardia: increase in the heart rate above normal

Tamoxifen: drug used in the treatment of breast cancer

Tendon: a cord that attaches a muscle to a bone

Tetraplegia: paralysis affecting all four limbs

Thoracic vertebrae: the 12 bones of the backbone to which the rubs are attached

Thorax: the chest

Thrombosis: the clotting of blood within a vein or artery. This can reduce the flow of blood or even stop it. This can be very dangerous when it affects important arteries such as coronary arteries which can cause a heart attack, or the arteries which supply the brain which can cause a stroke

Thyroid: gland at the base of the neck which releases hormones controlling metabolism and body growth

Trachea: the windpipe

Tracheostomy: an operation in which a hole is made into the trachea through the neck to relieve obstruction to breathing

Traction: the drawing or pulling of a limb or the spine

Tumour: an abnormal swelling formed by a new growth of cells
