I would like to thank you for the resulting letter of apology from the health trust. However small those results may seem I have taken great comfort in drawing closure over a part of my life I can now put to rest.

Women's Medical Problems

These cases can arise from all of the different types of gynaecological treatment including contraceptive procedures, termination of pregnancy and surgery related to the female genital tract.

We also deal with ‘wrongful birth’ cases where a baby is conceived despite sterilisation or other contraceptive procedures having been carried out  Medical problems like thrombosis or side effects relating to injected hormone contraceptives may also arise and where contraceptive devices are fitted there may be perforation of internal organs leading to complications for the patient.

Those who undergo termination of pregnancy can occasionally suffer damage to internal organs or even lose the chance of having a baby in the future due to infection.

Gynaecological surgery is another area where mistakes occur. Examples of such cases are total abdominal hysterectomy which can result in damage to the bowel, or lead to a fistula, abscess or infection. Laparoscopic sterilisation can also result in a perforated bowel or damage to the arteries. Pelvic floor repairs can cause fistulas or incontinence and finally Dilatation and Curettage (D&C) can cause perforation of the uterus. We have also dealt with many cases involving failure to diagnose certain conditions such as cervical cancer with sometimes tragic consequences.

The impact of such negligence in obstetrics and gynaecological cases can be immense. Not only are women often harmed physically but the psychological effect can be damaging too.

If you have suffered as a result of a medical accident or because of sub-standard care or management, the law can help you find out what happened and why, and in some cases recover compensation for your suffering. Contact us for further information about a possible claim.
