I would like to thank you for the resulting letter of apology from the health trust. However small those results may seem I have taken great comfort in drawing closure over a part of my life I can now put to rest.

Neurosurgery

Neurosurgery focuses on the diagnosis and surgical treatment of disorders affecting the entire nervous system including the spinal cord, brain and peripheral nerves and conditions treated by neurosurgeons include brain tumours, strokes, spinal cord trauma and brain haemorrhages.

Cases in the field of neurosurgery often involve spinal surgery. This is a complex speciality, and patients should be warned that there are serious and potentially life-threatening risks associated with such surgery. However, if the patient is not properly advised of the risks, and that risk materialises, then there may be a claim for clinical negligence.

Some cases relate to cauda equina syndrome, where the bundle of nerves supplying the bladder and bowel are compressed often as a result of a prolapsed disc. Surgical intervention is generally necessary if the patient is to avoid permanent nerve damage, and so any delay in diagnosis and surgery can have life-altering consequences including bladder and/or faecal incontinence.

Other claims might involve failure to diagnose and treat subdural haemorrhage, or a delay in performing surgery following a head injury.

If you have suffered as a result of a medical accident or because of sub-standard care or management, the law can help you find out what happened and why, and in some cases recover compensation for your suffering. Contact us for further information.
