I would like to thank you for the resulting letter of apology from the health trust. However small those results may seem I have taken great comfort in drawing closure over a part of my life I can now put to rest.

Cerebral Palsy Care Abuse

Our client suffers cerebral palsy and learning difficulties. His behaviour could be violent and challenging and so requires specialist care. Our client's parents had cared for him at home but found they were increasingly unable to and so they moved our client into a permanent residential care but would go home for long weekends regularly and his family would visit him.

At the time of his injuries he was living at Cragside House. On 31st August 2007, one of the other residents had a bouncy castle for  his birthday. Our client had mobility difficulties but was allowed on the bouncy castle on his own. When asked to go into the home for his lunch however, he would not get off and so one of the carers dragged him from the bouncy castle causing a friction burn and cut lip.

No medical attention was sought and there was no documented evidence of his injuries. The conduct of the carer was raised as a concern and was subsequently suspended. The police considered a prosecution under the Mental Capacity Act (mistreatment of a venerable individual).

Our client has since moved homes. Following a Letter of Claim they settled his claim for £1750 which was approved and the funds were released to be held by his mother for our client's benefit.
