Misdiagnosis of cancer leads to leg amputation

Samantha was repeatedly suffering from knee pains and consequently made a number of appointments with her doctor. Eventually, she was diagnosed with ligament damage and, three months after the first pains were reported, she was sent for physiotherapy.

The pain was so intense that Samantha had to walk with a crutch and was allocated a disabled parking space at her work place. However, only after Samantha repeatedly contacted her physiotherapist was a referral made to a specialist.

Samantha then visited the specialist some seven months after her initial GP visit and was diagnosed with osteosarcoma (an aggressive form of malignant bone cancer) in her right tibia (shin bone). Much to her distress, she was told that amputation from her mid-thigh was necessary.

Samantha is pursuing a claim on the basis that if she had been referred to a specialist earlier, she may not have lost her limb. She has instructed Leeds medical negligence solicitor, Rachelle Mahapatra, and it is hoped that Samantha will receive significant compensation with Rachelle’s assistance.
