Wrong tooth extracted from boy
Toby was eight years old when he went to his dentist for a routine tooth removal. However, the dentist mistakenly extracted the wrong tooth.
Once the error had been recognised, the dentist attempted to re-implant the tooth but no anaesthetic was provided, and the attempt was unsuccessful.
Toby had to undergo an extensive course of orthodontic treatment in order to move his teeth into a better position, involving individually restoring four upper teeth with porcelain veneers.
Toby pursued a claim for dental negligence, and the dentist admitted that mistakes had been made. A five figure settlement figure was reached on the basis that Toby will also require restorative dental treatment in the future.
