Referral could have saved heart attack victim

Jonathan was 50 when he sadly died of a heart attack.  Jonathan had been going to his GP for over a year with symptoms of high blood pressure and had not been referred to a Rapid Access Chest Pain Clinic. He could also have had surgery to improve his condition but because he was not referred this option was not open to him.

His wife brought a claim on behalf of herself and their young children.

Jennifer Cawthorne Specialist Clinical Negligence Solicitor obtained expert evidence which said that Jonathan’s GP should have referred him to such a clinic.  If he had been referred to such a clinic he would have been prescribed medication to lower his blood pressure and would not have died when he did.

The GP did admit he should have referred Jonathan earlier but did not believe this would have made a difference.

Settlement negotiations were entered into by Solicitors and eventually Jonathan’s wife and children were awarded a six figure sum of compensation.
