Ruth Moore

Location: Sheffield

Ruth joined Irwin Mitchell during July 2010 with a background in psychology and neuropsychology.  Through her past experience she has worked in brain injury rehabilitation, children’s homes, a mother and baby unit and transitional living units for teenagers leaving care and making their way in the world.

As a Client Liaison Manager, Ruth provides ongoing guidance and professional advice to clients who have sustained a serious injury and their families.  She works alongside the solicitors at Irwin Mitchell to help clients and their families deal with all the ‘non-legal’ problems they may face, offering practical support with day to day issues such as budgeting, welfare benefits, coping strategies and support with rehabilitation and education issues.

Ruth’s involvement with a client can be on a one-off basis, perhaps simply to assist with filling in a particular medical or benefits form, or on other occasions she may be involved with a client and their family for months or even years, depending on their needs, which could include one or all of the following aspects:

  • Review entitlement to state benefits and help complete the relevant application forms
  • Attend multi-disciplinary review meetings to help ‘interpret’ what is going on
  • Apply for grants for housing, housing adaptations or specialist equipment
  • Liaise with treating teams and schools
  • Help to educate siblings about their injured brother or sister

In her spare time, Ruth is a keen volunteer, she has volunteered at home and abroad as a bereavement counsellor, educator and befriender. She enjoys cultural anthropology and has lived and worked in Canada, South Africa and Israel. Ruth lived in Scotland for ten years and worked in the Arts, Television, Theatre and Film.
