Jennifer Cawthorne is a Partner in the Medical Law and Patients' Rights team in Manchester. She has been with Irwin Mitchell since January 2001 and specialises in birth injury, oncology and claims arising from failures to diagnose and treat.

Association of Personal Injury Lawyers - senior litigator

She has been extensively involved over the past five years with the vCJD Trust, representing families of victims to assist them putting forward claims to the Trust and putting forward claims for psychiatric injury and particular hardship.

Jennifer acted for John Corbett who suffers from cerebral palsy as a result of birth injury. She successfully represented him at the Court of Appeal in 2007 when it was argued that periodical payments should be linked to the Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings rather than the Retail Prices Index. This landmark decision ensured that seriously injured people relying on compensation payments for their long term care no longer face critical funding shortfalls when paying for care staff. In the past two and a half years, Jennifer has personally recovered over 20 million pounds in compensation for clients.

She is a Law Society Clinical Negligence Panel Member and APIL Senior Litigator and Jennifer won the Proclaim Personal Injury Award for Outstanding Case of the Year in November 2008. The Legal 500 2010 said of her; "Jennifer Cawthorne is especially good in handling particularly sensitive clients."
