Ian's speciality lies in neonatal and birth injury cases, including cerebral and Erb's palsy injuries, wrongful birth and still birth claims. However, he maintains a broad practice including missed diagnosis of cancer and claims involving all aspects of general and neuro surgical negligence. Ian also has a particular interest in cauda equina cases.

Ian regularly represents families at inquests and with Fatal Accident Act claims.

Ian has settled a wide range of claims including recovering £12,500 for the failure to diagnose breast cancer in a 44-year-old man, £325,000 for an 18 year old who sustained an Erb’s Palsy injury at birth and £325,000 for 3 boys following the death of their mother who was admitted to A&E after the birth of her 3rd child but was discharged without picking up a DVT.

Significant compensation was recovered when Ian obtained £3,500,000 for a 2 ½ year old who developed viral myocarditis but upon attending the Lister Hospital the condition was not diagnosed in time and he suffered three cardiac arrests resulting in brain damage. Ian’s successful cerebral palsy cases include the recovery of £4,200,000 for a child who sustained cerebral palsy at birth. Ian has also recovered £8,500,000 for a child who was rendered blind following retinopathy of prematurity.

A number of Ian's cases have been high-profile, including Batt-v-Highgate Hospital and Parnaby-Price v King's College Hospital NHS Trust. He worked on the R-v- Coroner case for Inner London North Ex Parte Touche and represented 2 families whose cases were considered in the Health Care Commission’s 2006 report into maternal deaths at Northwick Park Hospital. He is currently helping 10 families who have been affected by the outbreak of endocarditis at the Trent Cardiac Centre in Nottingham.

Ian recently co-authored a paper on Improving Patients' Safety in the NHS.

A strong believer in the importance of Pro Bono work, Ian advises at the Islington Legal Advice Centre and RCJ Citizens Advice Bureau.  In the 2010 Legal 500, an international guide on legal service providers, Ian was described as "affable", "scrupulous" and "an emerging star".

Chambers 2012 says "clients praise his 'empathetic, measured and considered approach."

When he is not working Ian finds himself distracted by whatever event arises on the sporting calendar!
