Camilla is a solicitor based in the clinical negligence team in London. She joined Irwin Mitchell in September 2009.
Originally from Hampshire, Camilla studied Law at Newcastle University and qualified as a solicitor in 2009. As a trainee at a firm based in London, Camilla gained valuable experience in clinical negligence claims and General Medical Council disciplinary proceedings, as well as the litigation process generally.
Camilla manages her own varied caseload involving orthopaedic, vascular, birthing and eye injuries. She has several cases involving injuries to the bowel, following abdominal surgery, meaning she is aware of the various unpleasant post operative complications that can occur following such an injury. Camilla also has several delay to diagnose and treat cancer cases.
In addition to her own caseload, Camilla assists more experienced members of the team with complex and high-value claims. Most recently Camilla has assisted on cases involving the following:
- A failure to obtain an adequate fetal heart rate signal and trace during labour, which resulted in the child suffering with permanent and irreversible brain damage
- A delay to pick up and treat a spinal blockage following an epidural, which resulted in paralysis from the waste down, as well as loss of control of the individual’s bowels and bladder
- A delay to diagnose and treat necrotising fasciitis with antibiotics, which sadly resulted in the death of an otherwise healthy 36 year old individual
Learning how the law is applied to the vast and intricate subject of medicine is what attracted Camilla to specialise in this area of law.
When not working Camilla enjoys reading and running. In October 2010, she ran 10K for Cancer Research.
