Sue Swales

Location: Leeds

Sue Swales is a Registered General Nurse with more than 25 years’ medical experience. She now works as Client Liaison Manager in our Leeds office.

After training at St James’ University Hospital in Leeds in the early 1980's, Sue worked in the Accident and Emergency and Intensive Care Units, latterly working in the Neuro-Intensive Care Unit at Leeds General Infirmary. She then qualified as a teacher and worked for four years at Wakefield College teaching health and social care.

She returned to the NHS in 2001 and was appointed to the education training and development team of NHS Direct. She moved on to an independent trauma rehabilitation organisation where she worked until her appointment with Irwin Mitchell.

Sue assists Irwin Mitchell clients with the following:

  • Highlighting areas of need and co-ordinating appropriate services and support for families
  • Support and education for our clients and families regarding the implications of their changed lifestyle as a consequence of the injury
  • Liaising with local services, professionals and agencies about ongoing programs and care needs
  • Practical support with day to day issues such as budgeting, useful coping strategies and support with ongoing rehabilitation issues
  • Monitoring the progress of rehabilitation to maintain a consistent, co-ordinated approach
  • Advice and assistance with benefits applications, reviews and appeals
