Lucy is a solicitor in the Medical Law and Patients’ Rights team in Leeds. Lucy works on a wide range of cases in all aspects of clinical negligence.
In particular, she has worked with children injured during their delivery and helped to recover damages so that they can have the care they require and the best possible life in the future. Whilst these children can be very physically and mentally disabled with the right therapy, equipment and computers they can lead more of an independent life.
Lucy finds working with individuals and their families who have been injured because of hospital accidents very rewarding and enjoys being able to recover damages and help people rebuild their lives. Lucy is keen that hospitals should improve their standards and feels that lessons need to be learnt from unnecessary accidents.
Lucy studied English at the University of Leeds and then went to BPP Law School in Leeds where she completed the Graduate Diploma in Law and Legal Practice Course before starting her training contract at Irwin Mitchell, Leeds. She trained for 10 months in the Medical Law & Patients’ Rights team before qualifying.
Lucy is a member of Irwin Mitchell’s Charity Committee. She regularly attends fundraising events in support of local charities including Friends of Lucy-Mai, Leeds Mencap, SNAPS, William Merritt and Sue Ryder. Lucy has also participated in respite days that Irwin Mitchell regularly arrange for children and their carers involving different activities such as music therapy, visits to the theatre, days with animals including dogs, donkeys and alpacas.
Lucy is also a member of Leeds and West Riding Medico-Legal Society and advises at the Leeds Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB).
In her free time she is keen on walking her dog and going out with her friends and family.
