Anna is a solicitor specialising in clinical negligence claims and inquests. She studied law at The University of Nottingham before returning to her home town of Leeds to study the Legal Practice Course. She trained and qualified as a clinical negligence solicitor in July 2009 and joined Irwin Mitchell in October 2010.
Anna has been involved in a wide variety of medical cases including claims for injuries sustained during or after surgery, failure to diagnose cancer, loss of vision as a result of substandard ophthalmic care, gynaecology injuries and loss of fertility, dispensation of medication errors, injuries following failures of GPs to refer for treatment, spinal injuries, brain injuries and birth injuries. Anna is particularly interested in surgical negligence and injuries acquired during birth or in the neonatal period.
Anna is a member of Action Against Medical Accidents (AvMA) and Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL) and is on the committee of the Leeds Medico Legal Society.
Anna also has a special interest in Inquests and is a member of the charity INQUEST and the Inquest Lawyers Group. She has represented bereaved families at inquests into deaths occurring in hospitals, prisons and psychiatric institutions. Examples include cases where babies have died during or after delivery, deaths following overdoses of medication and deaths of elderly people as a result of poor care in hospitals and/or the community. Anna has gone on to represent the families in their claims under the Fatal Accidents Act where the deaths occurred following negligence.
Anna enjoys representing her clients and supporting them through the litigation process. She understands that what people are seeking above anything is an explanation for what has happened and feels strongly that hospitals should learn lessons from all cases to avoid the same mistakes happening in the future. Anna finds it very rewarding to be involved in a process which can transform the life of a seriously injured person when funds are recovered to enable that person to set up a care/support package, purchase equipment and regain some independence following a medical accident.
Anna is involved in fundraising for local charities and has close ties with Leeds Mencap, CoHearentVision, Little Hiccups and Sue Ryder. Anna has been involved in hosting respite days that Irwin Mitchell arrange for clients and their carers, such as the Access performances at the West Yorkshire Playhouse and music therapy; runs the Leeds 10k every year for the office charity and attends charity quizzes and balls for charities such as Martin House, Friends of Lucy Mai and Leeds Alzheimer’s Society.
Anna is currently learning British Sign Language so that she can communicate better with people with sensory difficulties.
